A Bioreactor is a vessel or container which is used to hold organisms for the purpose of harnessing their natural biochemical processes. In other words a Bioreactor is a system that creates an artificial environment for photosynthetic organisms (algae) to perform a chemical conversion.

IKA’s Bioreactor Specifically Engineered for Algae
Standard Options Include
-10 Liter vessel
-The vessel is fully jacketed, capable of attaching a circulating bath used for temperature control
-Automatic Co2 Controller – used to maintain constant PH value
-Digitally controlled P7 Electronic Overhead Stirrer with modified coupling. Used for agitation which helps with oxygen transfer, also needed to mix nutrients and to keep the fermentation homogeneous
-Measurements of the Bioreactor are 50x50x90cm, length x width x height

Bioreactor Controlled Variables
Lighting – must include lighting to sustain photosynthesis
- Depends on algae species, light color, light intensity,
- Motion – constant (slow) motion to imitate natural environment and help with oxygen transfer and mixture of nutrients
- Ph-Value – measures acidity
- Temperature – must be similar to natural environment of algae, best temperature found through experimentation
